Welcome to Kindergarten

  • Kindergarten in District 200 is a full-day program, held at the Verda Dierzen Early Learning Center, 2045 N. Seminary Avenue. 
    Kindergarten classes meet fromVerda Dierzen ELC Logo  8:30 a.m. until 2:55 p.m. daily.

    Please see information below for details about 2019-20 Kindergarten registration. If you are entering D200 after these dates, please contact the school for assistance.     During the summer months and other school break times, when Verda Dierzen is closed, contact the District 200 Administrative office for assistance at 815-338-8200.

Eligibility

  • To be eligible to attend kindergarten during the 2020-21 school year:

    • Children must be five years old on or before September 1, 2020.
    • State law requires an original or certified copy of the birth certificate at the time of registration; your child will not be registered without one.  Hospital certificates are not acceptable.
    • Parents must also provide proof of residency in order to register their child.

Kindergarten Registration

  • In preparation for online registration beginning on March 1, 2020, Verda Dierzen Early Learning Center will hold pre-registration for students new to D200 and/or for those who are interested in the Dual Language program. To be eligible to attend kindergarten during the 2020-2021 school year, children must be five years old on or before September 1, 2020.

    Pre-registration for Kindergarten

    Tuesday, February 25 from 4:30 - 6:00 p.m.  
    or  Thursday, February 27 from 6:00 - 7:30 p.m.

    If your child is new to D200 please bring the following:

    • An original or certified copy of a birth certificate at the time of registration; your child will not be registered without one. Hospital certificates are not acceptable.
    • Proof of residency within D200 boundaries
    • A registration fee of $135 will be collected at the time of registration.

Dual Language Kindergarten Registration

  • Parents interested in the Kindergarten Dual Language program MUST attend an informational meeting to learn about the available class options. Both presentations will be in English and Spanish. 

    Mandatory Dual Language Meetings

    Tuesday, February 25 at 4:30 p.m.  or  Thursday, February 27 at 6:00 p.m.

    For families who are interested in the Dual Language program, registration materials for District 200’s 2020-2021 Kindergarten classes will be due no later than Friday, March 13, 2020.  Parents of students selected for the Dual Language Program will be notified at the end of March. If there are more applications than spaces available in the Dual Language Kindergarten program, a lottery will be held to choose student participants.
