OF THE BOARD OF EDUCATION OF
WOODSTOCK COMMUNITY UNIT SCHOOL DISTRICT 200
MCHENRY COUNTY, ILLINOIS
WHEREAS, all residents and businesses, including school buildings within Woodstock Community Unit School District 200, produce solid wastes; and
WHEREAS, the disposal of solid wastes is a growing problem and recycling reduces the need for landfills, decreases pollution, saves energy and natural resources; and
WHEREAS, in order for recycling to be effective, it is imperative that items of recycled content be purchased; and
WHEREAS, reducing the initial purchase of goods and the reusing of goods are more beneficial to (less impacting on) the environment than recycling, in terms of energy conservation, water-use, and pollution reduction (energy and water use and the generation of pollution); and
WHEREAS, the successful implementation of the plan depends upon support and cooperation of all students and staff members of the school district;
NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved that the Board of Education of Woodstock Community Unit School District No. 200, McHenry County, Illinois, requires all employees and students to recycle all materials that are marketable and for which a recycling procedure has been implemented; and
District 200 will purchase products of recycled content, when feasible, at a price up to 10% above the lowest bid for products composed of virgin materials; and
District 200 will continually attempt to be in the vanguard of purchasing environmentally responsible goods by investigating products of innovative design and/or from sustainable materials, as well as those that are non-toxic and safe, when feasible; and
District 200 will provide an opportunity for the redistribution and sharing of items within the district, when feasible.
